Despite it never snowing, and well, the weather never really getting cold, the holidays in Santa Barbara are still celebrated. Just because it doesn’t feel like winter doesn’t mean it shouldn’t look like winter. At Marina Beach Motel, we celebrate the holidays as if we were in the North Pole. There are plenty of activities and things to see during the month of December. Just so you don’t miss out, we’ve compiled a list of things to do.
Here’s how you should spend the holidays in Santa Barbara
Una Noche de Las Posadas/La Pastorela
Hosted by the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation, these two holiday traditions remain a staple in the Santa Barbara community. “Una Noche de Las Posadas” is a traditional reenactment of when Mary and Joseph were looking for lodging in Bethlehem.
“La Pastorela” is the iconic reenactment of when the shepherds were on their quest to Bethlehem. Both are entertaining and enjoyable for all ages. They take place at the historic Presidio Chapel. They both make for a great setting with local culture intermixed.
La Arcada Christmas Walk
Boasting one of Santa Barbara’s most charming streets, La Arcada is a great place to visit year round. However, the La Arcada Christmas Walk is a truly great place to celebrate the holidays in Santa Barbara. With incredible restaurants to sit down and eat, you can make a great night out of this decorated street. The Christmas Walk features pictures with Santa, carollers, music groups and much more!
Nutcracker Ballet
In true holiday spirit, The Arlington Theater hosts the annual Nutcracker Ballet. This year will be the 42nd anniversary of the ballet, so clearly they’re doing something right! Make sure to get your tickets now before there are eventually none left; it’s a show you definitely won’t want to miss.
Parade of Lights
In order to complete the holidays in Santa Barbara, you need to check out the Parade of Lights. This year is their 31st annual parade, with the theme of the “Wild West Holiday.” With incredible display of lights featured on various boats, this display is fun for the entire family. Not to mention, the entire parade is capped off with a miraculous firework show on the water for all to see.

For this holiday parade, more than 65,000 people flock to state street to enjoy the Downtown Santa Barbara Holiday Parade. With a marching band, holiday themed floats, and talented performance groups, this spectacle is one that you need to see.
