Wine Not Doing It for You? We Visit a Couple Bars in Santa Barbara

Everyone and their mother knows that California does wine incredibly well. But you can only go wine-tasting, order that pinot with dinner, and visit vineyards so many times. Nothing can replace the classic bar. Whether it’s a cocktail or a pint that you’re looking for, let’s get into some of the bars Santa Barbara has for you.

Elsie’s Tavern.

Looking for a casual getaway from your…getaway? Check out Elsie’s. They’re cash-only, divey as anything, and plenty of beers on tap. They’re always pouring your old reliables — Coors, Bud, you know the type — but often incorporate interesting local, California, or Pacific Northwest brews. There’s no lack of places to sit, so you can get comfortable and stay a while. They’ve even got a patio. And, on the low key: they have Wi-fi. Of course.

Find them at 117 W De La Guerra Street.

The Good Lion.

On the more upscale side of things, here’s a real cocktail bar. You’re probably trying to keep this night on the classy side, right? This is your spot. With a killer happy hour (4-7 p.m.), you can try a couple (or more) without maxing out too soon. It’s vacation, after all. Plus they do take credit cards.

Pair elegantly garnished presentation with sophisticated, smart spirit choices, and you’ve won half the cocktail battle already. Find The Good Lion at 1212 State Street.

We promise there are more bars in Santa Barbara. But we couldn’t blow your weekend all in one go, could we? Stay safe, and make sure you eat first.

Catch us here again on the blog soon. We’ll get the next round.
