About the Zoo

The Santa Barbara Zoo is dedicated to animal preservation and conservation. It first opened its doors in August of 1963 and has continued to serve animals ever since. And now, with over 30 acres and views overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the zoo is one of the most beautiful in the world.

What can I do at the Santa Barbara Zoo this summer?

There is so much for you to do at the zoo this summer! From new exhibits to new animals, you’ll be able to experience a zoo unlike any other. Visit the new Australian Walkabout exhibit and get up close to some of Australia’s most popular animals or experience an Animal Encounter, where you’ll be able to meet and greet some animals while engaging in a Q&A session.

Or you can take your zoo day as simple as you please, by wandering to the different exhibits and seeing some of the 500+ animals the Santa Barbara Zoo cares for.

Are there any special events?

Of course! You can hand-feed Masai Giraffes for a memory that will last a lifetime. And when you feed the giraffes, you’re also helping the zoo’s conservation efforts. A portion of each feeding is donated to giraffe conservation efforts in Africa as well as conservation efforts for local endangered species.

And if you’ll be in Santa Barbara at the end of August, you can attend the Zoofari Ball. This 21+ charity ball combines dancing, dinner, and conservation in one fun event! Plus, you’ll be at the zoo until 11:00 pm, giving you the rare chance to see the animals after dark. Give back to the zoo while you party at this exclusive event.

How can I get tickets?

You can buy your tickets to the Santa Barbara Zoo online here. Online advance purchase tickets are required for all guests, since zoo capacity is currently limited. You’ll want to book in advance since some days do sell out. You can find out more about the zoo’s safety measures here.
